ATSC Club Update - August 2020
The club is still active. We obviously have challenges in getting water space.
The committee recognise that that any water space we get will be limited and as a result water space will be allocated as a priority to the swimmers primarily in the Development and Junior Squads as these swimmers will be the building block of the club when the Stour Centre comes back online next year.
Sadly, we still have no route for Learn to Swim and most senior swimmers to get back in the pool at this time. We will update if this changes.
Kingswood
The committee has reached out to the swim school that won the Kingswood contract to explore the possibility of getting water time from them. This is in progress and we will update when this becomes clearer.
Ashford School
There is good news – we have held positive discussions with Ashford School and have been offered an initial three weeks training from 18th August at the Prep school in Great Chart.
Invites to these sessions have gone out – again, primarily to the swimmers in (or around) the Development and Junior Squads.
In these changed times we need to complete the relevant Risk Assessments and policies to ensure parents/carers, the swimmers and the coaches/helpers are protected.
We can’t invite all swimmers in these squads due to restrictions
Finally, as a committee we would like to thank Dan for his hard work and commitment to the club as Head Coach and wish him and his family best wishes for his future.
ATSC - CoronaVirus
Swim England uploaded a statement to their website which outlines a response to the Governments daily updates. https://www.swimming.org/swimengland/coronavirus-statement/
They have suggested suspending all swimming classes (Teaching and Coaching) Until the end of May 2020, as swimming training fulls under the “public gathering” category. Swim England have cancelled all National competitions, coaches conferences and talent activities and are in talks with elite athletes about what they will do as prep for the Summer.
As a club we have made the decision to follow the guidance given by both Swim England and the Government and it is therefore with regret that we will be suspending all activities that fall under Ashford Town Swimming Club until further notice.
I apologise for any inconveniences this may have caused.
Myself and everyone involved with the club would like to wish everyone good health and happiness in this difficult time.
I will be looking forward to getting the swimmers back in the pool to start preparations for future meets.
Kind Regards,
Dan Jacobs – Head Coach

What our swimmers say…
I really enjoy competing at galas – there’s always a great atmosphere.
I’ve made lots of new friends since starting at the club. It’s a great way to keep fit and healthy too.
Learning to swim is really fun and I feel really confident in the water now.
