Competitions and Qualifying Times

Ashford Town Swimming Club competes in the following competitions throughout the year:

Club Championships

ATSC hold a yearly internal licensed gala soley for ATSC swimmers.
The events are held over 4 Sundays in June/earl July. Entry guidance is published to encourage swimmers to swim as many events as possible.
The results are used at the annual Awards night for prize giving.

Open Meets

These are held throughout the year. Information can be obtained on the club website, the club notice board at the Stour Centre. Swimmers will always be emailed entry details if the gala is suitable for them.
These meets are to be used by swimmers to gain entry to the events below. Swimmers in the squads are expected to enter these open galas regularly throughout the year.

East Invicta Championships

This championship is run by clubs in East Kent and is normally held over 2 weekends, one in Mid October and one (inc Team Relays) in Mid November.

  • Licence Level –  2, Short Course
  • Licensed Level entry – Any licensed time at levels 1,2,3,4 short or long course
  • Qualifying dates – 1st Jan on the year of competition to roughly early October. White Cliffs tends to be the last Qualifying gala.
  • Age criteria – Age on the last date of the Championships – Mid November
  • Entry Conditions – Min QT only. No limit on swim numbers
  • Venue – Dover Leisure Centre

Kent County Championships

These championships usually take place over a couple of weekends in late January and early February. Long Distance events take place outside the noted window.

  • Championship Dates – 2 weekends End Jan & Early Feb
  • License level – 1 – Long Course
  • Licensed Level entry – Licensed time at levels 1,2,3,4 short or long course
  • Qualifying dates – 1st Jan on the preceding year of competition to early January in the year of competition. Icebreaker tends to be the last Qualifying gala.
  • Age criteria – Age on 31st December in the year of the Championships
  • Entry Conditions – Min QT’s with Auto & Consideration times. Max entry numbers in each age group
  • Venue –  LAC – London Aquatics Centre, Stratford

South East Regional Summer Championships

These championships are usually held over three weekends from late April to the middle of May.

  • Championship Dates – 3 weekends end of April to Mid-May. 1st & 3rd Weekends are Age Group (11-14), 2nd Weekend is Youth (15+)
  • License level – 1 – Long Course
  • Licensed Levels Entry – Licensed time at levels 1,2,3 short or long course
  • Qualifying dates – 1st June in the preceding year of competition to mid-March in the year of competition.
  • Age criteria – Age on 31st December in the year of the Championships
  • Entry Conditions – Min QT’s with Auto & Consideration times. Max entry numbers in each age group
  • Venue – Winchester, K2 Crawley (Age Group), Wycombe (Youth)

South East Regional Winter Championships

These championships are usually held over one weekend at the start of November.

  • Championship Dates – 1st weekend in November
  • License level – 2 – Short Course
  • Licensed Levels Entry – Licensed time at levels 1,2,3 short or long course
  • Qualifying dates – 1st Dec in the preceding year of competition to early Oct in the year of competition.
  • Age criteria – Age on 31st December in the year of the Championships.
  • Entry Criteria –  No age group qualifying. Auto & base times with fastest number of swimmers regardless of age group.

ASA Summer National Championships

The fastest swimmers, in individual events will be invited to compete in the British Summer Championships.

  • Championship Dates – Whole week from end July to early August
  • License level – 1
  • Licensed Levels Entry – Long course only. Level 1 only
  • Qualifying dates – Early March – early May in the year of competition.
  • Age criteria – Age on 31st December in the year of the Championships
  • Entry Conditions – Invitation only. Max number of swimmers in each age group. Invite to 50m events (for under 18’s) is based on their 100 stroke time.

ASA Winter National Championships

The fastest swimmers, in individual events will be invited to compete in the British Summer Championships.

  • Championship Dates – Mid December
  • License level – 1
  • Licensed Levels Entry – Licensed time at levels 1,2 short or long course
  • Qualifying dates – 1st September in the year preceding the year of competition
  • Age criteria – Age on 31st December in the year of the Championships
  • Entry Conditions – Qualification times, 3 age groups. Doesn’t seem to be any restriction on numbers.

In addition to the above, the club enters the following team galas, which are by selection only.

Kent Junior League

This is a team gala where swimmers swim for ATSC and is for swimmers aged 13 years and under (age is defined as at 31st December on the year of competition).
ATSC will select the swimmers and events being swum.
There are 3 galas held in June, October and November, with the points at the end deciding the final league position.

National Arena Swimming League

This is a team gala where swimmers swim for ATSC and is for swimmers aged 9 years to Open (age is defined as at 31st December on the year of competition).
ATSC will select the swimmers and events being swum.
The league is a national league with ATSC in the Southern Division and is swum over 3 galas which take place in October, November and December with points deciding promotion and relegation.

Where appropriate we will enter teams in the relevant age group.
